Tuesday, August 28th, 2007 PANTHERS ANNOUNCE ROSTER SIGNINGS Panthers Taking Shape for 07-08... PICKERING, ON: The Panthers are pleased to announce the following signings for the 2007-08 OPJHL hockey season. Returnees include Goalie Connor Sampson and Defenceman Scott Brown. Brown played both defence and forward last year and will concentrate on defence this year. At the forward position, Jamie Macqueen, Chad Beal, Dan Mandel, Gregg Riggs, Brendan Hann, Mike Mcfarlane, Brad Fleishman, and Greg Payne. Fleishman leaves this week for a tryout with the OHL's London Knights. New signees include Goalie Ben Calma, who played last year for the Markham Major Midgets. On Defence, the Panthers have signed Thomas Longland from the St. Catharines Jr. B team, Mike Perry from Richmond Hill in the GMHL, Luca Penzo of the Toronto Young Nat Midgets, and Ryan Goldberg of the Toronto Red Wing Midgets. At the Forward position, new players include Andrew Howes of the Toronto Red Wing Midgets, Stan Smrke of the North York Ranger Midgets, and Blake Boddy from the Ajax/Pickering Raider Midgets. Last week, the Panthers completed a trade with the Ajax Attack where they have obtained forward Tyler Hauer. The Panthers have signed veteran Cody Smith but his OHL rights have been traded from Brampton to the London Knights. Smith is currently in London assessing his opportunity with the Knights. The Panthers have committed to Ajax/Pickering Minor Midget player Andy Andreoff. The 5th round choice of the Oshawa Generals is at their training camp presently and will return to the Panthers if the Generals do not choose the local forward. With no defenseman returning from the 06-07 team, the Panthers would still like to add 2 veteran defenseman, if not before the season, soon after.
