2007-2008 Award Winners
PODERZAY, ANDREOFF, BROWN, PENZO ALL RECEIVE HONOURS...
Brad Shearer Award: (Dedication & Leadership)
Brennan Poderzay
Since coming to Pickering midway through the season Poderzay demonstrated all the characteristics to win this award. Fiercely competitive right to the bitter end, Poderzay never quit during a difficult and turbulent season in Pickering. Poderzay appeared in 29-games with the Panthers, and had the same spirit and determination in game one through 29. It’s the first time in Pickering Panthers history that a goaltender has received the Brad Shearer Award.
Scotty Ramage Award: (Rookie of the Year)
Andy Andreoff
In every way Andreoff was Pickering’s top rookie. From his raw talent, work ethic, play on the ice, play in practice, conduct in the room, and outside the rink, Andreoff embodies everything a hockey player needs to succeed at the next level. He was Pickering’s point-per-game leader and top forward, but more than that was his commitment to the team during tough times, and his respect for the staff and veteran players in the room.
Best Defenceman:
Scott Brown
The veteran rear-guard was given a difficult assignment at the start of the season, lead a rookie defence corps that saw more changes in one season that most do in three years. Brown wore an Assistant Captain ‘A’ with pride, guts, and determination. He appeared in 47-of-49 games, while being double and triple shifted most nights.
Most Improved:
Luca Penzo
The rookie defenceman was a bright spot for Pickering this season. Penzo jumped into the OPJHL this year, and improved every game, growing from a rookie defenceman, to what seemed like a veteran on the blueline. Rarely playing with the same partner, Penzo showed an uncanny ability to adapt, even in his rookie year. Penzo appeared in 47-of-49 games, scoring 2-goals and adding 8-assists.
3-Star Cup:
Brennan Poderzay
After every home game the Pickering Panthers announce the games 3-stars. The scoring breaks down by 1st, 2nd, 3rd, star as 15pts, 10pts, 5pts. Brennan Poderzay, often facing over 50-shots was this years recipient.
Top Scorer:
Andy Andreoff
Although a rookie, and only 17-years old, Andy Andreoff takes home the Panthers leading scorer award, coming in with just under 0.7 PPG.
