BILL BRADY NAMED NEW HEAD COACH,
15-Years of Coaching Experience to Lead the Panthers...

PICKERING, ON: General Manager Gary Watters is pleased to announce that Bill Brady is the new head coach of the Pickering Panthers Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club.

Brady brings over 15-years of coaching experience to Pickering. He was behind the bench for eight seasons with the Midget AAA team in Oshawa, from there he joined the Panthers as an assistant, before leaving to pursue a Head Coaching position with the Cobourg Cougars.

“This is a great opportunity, as my coaching career has now come full circle in the OPJHL.” said Brady this morning, “I’m excited to work with Gary, and the entire ownership group.”

Brady is a local Durham Region resident, and has valuable ties to the entire hockey community in the area. “We are very committed to building a strong team in Pickering, and want to make this a community team that works in unison with the local hockey organizations.” said Watters, “We want local players to strive to play for our organization and for fans to be able to come out and cheer for players that they recognize in the community.”

Brady and the Hockey Operations department in Pickering are currently searching for assistant coaches to join Brady on the bench. The new Head Coach noted; “You need an experienced staff of good hockey people in all positions to build a winning program.”

“We don’t have to rebuild this hockey club, we need to restore it.”

Brady is referring to Pickering’s recent success prior to last year’s performance. The Panthers are one-year removed from appearing in the South Conference Final, a year that saw six players commit to the NCAA, including division-1 schools such as Maine, Mercyhurst, and Lake Superior State. The previous season Pickering led all South Conference teams with 30-wins, “The organization built a strong foundation over the past few years, and we will re-establish that winning mentality, performance, and tradition”.

Watters summarized Brady’s hiring by saying “We are very excited about the upcoming season. Having Bill on board is a major step in the right direction for our hockey club.”

Brady will begin his Head Coaching duties immediately, as the Panthers prepare for their spring evaluation camp which begins on May 2nd, details can be found here.
