PICKERING DEFEATS KINGSTON IN OT
Eamonn Courtney Records 4-pts in Victory

PICKERING, ON: Just like they did in their home opener, the Pickering Panthers battled back, and earned 2-pts on home ice Friday night. Eamonn Courtney recorded 2-goals and 2-assists, as the Pickering Panthers defeated Kingston 5-4 in Overtime to take the victory.

The Panthers got off to a good start, as they did in their past two games, however on this night they were awarded with a 1-0 lead. Eamonn Courtney converted on the powerplay late in the opening frame - finishing off a play from Panther veterans Greg Riggs and Richard Duncan.

Make the score 1-0 Pickering after 20-minutes.

Before the midway point of the 2nd period, the Vees has not only erased the lead, but built one of their own with powerplay goals from Ben Power and Steve Evans.

Late in the middle frame, special teams would again come into play, as Jonathan Vlahogiannakos walked off the side boards and snapped a quick shot that beat Cody Rosen to draw Pickering even at 2-2. It was the rookie forwards 2nd goal of the season, and it sent the teams to their rooms deadlock heading into the 3rd.

Make it 2-2 after 40-minutes.

The Panthers and Vees traded early goals; Pickering getting a marker from Andrew Fairney (who had a spirited game), and Kingston answering back from Brock Higgs.

The two teams settled into the 3rd period, and as time ticked down overtime loomed.

Late in the period, the Panther PP would strike again, with Courtney scoring a beautiful one-time blast from the point to the top corner.

The lead was short-lived. Kingston went on the attack right from the centre faceoff, and evened the score just 32-seconds later on a goal from Michael Farrel.

OT began and it was a Panther veteran who drew the game-changing penalty. Greg Riggs picked up the puck in the nuetral zone and walked into the Kingston zone. He danced around a Vee defender, forcing him to take down Riggs as he walking in on goal.

The Panthers, with four PP goals already on the night, went on the powerplay.

It would take Pickering one minute to capitalize. The Kingston PK were aggressive and managed to fire the puck down the ice twice, forcing Pickering to retreat. Once Pickering gained the zone, Eamonn Courtney tee'd one up and blasted it past the Vees goaltender for the thrilling overtime winner. Connor Ste. Marie was parked in front of the Vees goal, and was credited with the winner.

Make the final Pickering-5 vs Kingston-4.

Pickering received a solid night from rookie goaltender Chris Seiler, as he picked up his first Jr. A win in his first Jr. A start. Seiler's best save came in the 1st period, as he stole what looked like a sure goal away from Kingston, sliding across the goalline in the full splits to make an unbeleivable save.

The Panthers have no time to rest and enjoy the win, as they take on the Brampton Capitals Saturday afternoon at 2:30pm in Bowmanville - the game being part of the OPHL Governors Showcase.
