PANTHER WIN BIG ON HOME ICE!
43-Saves from Seiler & 6-Power Play Goals Leads to Victory...
PICKERING, ON: The Pickering Panthers jumped out of the gate and never looked back, as they turned a 6-0 1st period lead into a convincing 8-1 victory on home ice. Chris Seiler made 43-saves, while Nick Certo, Connor Ste. Marie, Jonathan Vlahogiannakos, Eamonn Courtney, Aaron Engelage, Jeff Broekema, and Richard Duncan (2) scored for the Panthers in the win.
A damp and miserable Wednesday night saw a small crowd on hand in Pickering, but those in attendance weren't dissapointed as the Panthers jumped out with three goals before the midway mark of the 1st period.
Duncan, Certo, and Ste. Marie all converted on powerplay chances to give Pickering an early 3-0 lead.
Just past the midway point Vlahogiannakos scored an even strength marker, before Duncan and Courtney added PP goals to end the first period scoring.
Pickering outshot Trenton 20-11 in the first period, and their dicipline was excellent as they received only one minor penalty to Trenton's six.
The 2nd period saw Trenton come out with some added life and pressured Pickering early. This led to a pair of PP chances for the Hercs, but they couldn't beat Seiler in goal for Pickering. The rookie netminder would make 16-saves in the 2nd period, and 43 on the night, as he earned his 3rd win of the season, and improved his save percentage to .914%.
Late in the 2nd period Pickering would score an 'unlikely' goal. Rugged defenceman Aaron Engelage was sent in all alone on a long lead pass up ice. Engelage snapped a perfect shot that went goal post and in for his 2nd of the season.
The Hercs would add a PP marker late (Dustin Walsh) to break up Seiler's shutout bid, make it 7-1 Panthers after 40-minutes.
The 3rd period saw Pickering play out the clock. Broekema added one midway through the period to make it 8-1, that's your final.
The Panthers don't have a Friday night home game this week - their next action in Saturday at 7:00pm in Buffalo, taking on the Jr. Sabres.
